Sorry, the following hasn’t been updated in over a year…
The Postal Service – Such Great Heights – EP
I know this is nothing new, but I have been listening to the Iron & Wine cover of “Such Great Heights”. It’s beautiful. Their acoustic take on the song changes it’s pop-y happy sound to a lovely, sweet sadness. I love the Postal Service’s version, but the IW version just breaks my heart, in a very good way. Oh and The Shins cover of “We Will Become Silhouettes” is quite fun.

Rilo Kiley More Adventurous I just downloaded their new album More Adventurous from iTunes and am in love. It’s A Hit, really that’s just what it is. Jenny Lewis has the most gorgeous voice in my book. I saw them a while ago, opening for Elliott Smith, and was just blown away by the pure quality of her voice. It’s powerful and delicate at the same time. I believe their latest album isn’t in stores until the end of August, but you can purchase it on iTunes here:

I lerv them so. I can’t stop listening to “What Happened to the Sands” How I wish they’d come to CA. I would take them out to dinner and buy them matching iPod minis, complete with engraved personal messages. Unfortunately, the closest I’ve ever come to being in the near vicinity of Pas/Cal was a brief layover in Detroit on a business flight from Boston to LAX. Their website is really top notch in coolness. It’s definitely one of the nicest ones I’ve come across.
I first heard their music in 2003 on KEXP (via internet). They played “I Wanna Take You Out In Your Holiday Sweater”. I immediately googled them and purchased the CD at Amazon. Every so often I email in a request for Pas/Cal and it never gets played. I was starting to think the DJ didn’t like me or something. So as an experiment I started requesting Pas/Cal along with an alternative request. The alternative request always gets played.
Hey, I just noticed Pas/Cal Eps aren’t available on the iTunes music store. What’s up with that? Even Earlimart is available and their music isn’t featured in a Saturn ad.Sondre Lerche Two Way Monologue
I saw a new picture of Sondre in Entertainment Weekly. Oh, he is so adorable! I want to buy him presents and stuff like that. He’s just one of those people you have an uncontrollable urge to spoil. I’ve seen him once at a small club opening for Nada Surf. He’s wonderful live (I didn’t stick around for Nada Surf). I have an autographed CD which I treasure. I’m planning on seeing him at the Troubadour next month. I’ll be the one throwing wrapped gifts at the stage. Click here to go to my Sondre section.

Transatlanticism I’ve finally taken a break from The Postal Service and this album has replaced it. (This was actually the very first album purchased through the iTunes online music store. It only took about a minute to download.) I love Ben Gibbard. They were in town a while ago, but I couldn’t find anyone who wanted to go with me. No one would see The Postal Service with me when they played a teeny tiny club here. Then later, the friend who I had invited saw them by himself at another show, claiming he didn’t know I had invited him and really didn’t like their music much at the time.
